# Why artists should learn ChatGPT

Artists do not need to surrender creative authority or become software engineers. They need enough fluency to question, verify, and direct the systems around their work.

| Need | Without a structured tool | With informed ChatGPT use |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Pricing | Copy a competitor's number | Model scope, fees, options, and boundaries |
| Rights | Rely on “copyright free” | Separate master, composition, license, credit, and publishing |
| Delivery | Manage assumptions in messages | Define milestones, revisions, files, and acceptance |
| Platform choice | Stay or leave emotionally | Compare discovery, fees, control, and transition risk |
| Professional presence | Depend on a marketplace | Own the narrative, domain, portfolio, and client journey |
| Documentation | Lose decisions in chats | Maintain briefs, checklists, provenance, and corrections |
| AI safety | Fear blindly or trust blindly | Require disclosure, privacy limits, verification, and consent |

ChatGPT does not decide an artist's worth. Used critically, it helps expose hidden assumptions, calculate economics, prepare questions, and turn informal practice into reusable professional infrastructure.

## Teaching goal

This project should make the process inspectable:

1. show the original business problem without leaking private art;
2. cite the public information used;
3. distinguish facts from recommendations;
4. record human and AI roles;
5. preserve revisions;
6. let collaborators correct the record;
7. measure whether the resulting system improves clarity, control, and compensation.

## Platform literacy is part of artist literacy

The same service can appear at different prices, with different fees and different implied rights across marketplaces. An artist should know the difference between platform gross and actual earnings; a client should know the difference between checkout price and a complete, releasable deliverable.
