# Platform effectiveness for artists and clients

_Reviewed 2026-09-13. Public listings and policies can change._

The useful question is not “Which platform is best?” It is “Which part of the working relationship should this platform handle?” Discovery, proof of artistry, payment protection, contracting and long-term audience ownership are different jobs.

## What is verified about Charlie

- **Fiverr:** Charlie J's public `musiccharliej` service offers rap writing and performance. The project previously recorded package prices of $70, $130 and $350. Fiverr states that a freelancer receives 80% of a completed order.
- **AirGigs:** AirGigs currently displays “UK Rap vocals for your song” by Charlie J at **$200**. The listing demonstrates that his services are already distributed across more than one marketplace.
- **Bandcamp:** `officialcharliej.bandcamp.com` presents Charlie J as a Cardiff artist with a released catalog and an on-platform contact route.
- **SoundBetter and Vocalizr:** these are relevant comparison services, but this review did **not** verify a Charlie profile on either. They are opportunities to assess, not claims about his current presence.

## Two-sided assessment

| Channel | Effective for the artist when… | Effective for the hiring client when… | Main limitation |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Fiverr | Reviews and marketplace discovery convert packaged, bounded assignments | The client wants a fast order, visible reputation and platform-managed workflow | A broad package can compress authorship, performance, files and rights into one low anchor; the artist receives 80% under the published model |
| AirGigs | A music-specific audience is more valuable than a general freelance audience | The client wants music categories, samples, project posts, held payment and musician-focused support | AirGigs says seller commission varies from 8–15%; buyers pay 4.7% or at least $5; gig language still may not resolve publishing or master ownership |
| Bandcamp | Releases and fan support should establish artistic identity and catalog | The client needs to hear released work and understand creative fit | It is a storefront and artist presence, not an EP commissioning or escrow workflow |
| SoundBetter | Credits, specialization and proposal-based work can support higher-value positioning | The client wants to post a project, compare specialists and fund a protected job | A Charlie listing was not verified; fees and provider conditions require account-level confirmation |
| Vocalizr | The assignment specifically connects vocalists and producers | The client wants a vocal-focused pool, collaborative workspace and platform records | Narrower than a complete EP engagement; a Charlie listing was not verified |
| Artist-owned site | The artist needs one canonical narrative, inquiry path, rights explanation, EPK and mailing-list relationship | The client wants to understand fit and scope before choosing how to transact | The artist must supply or select contracts, payments, dispute handling and ongoing maintenance |

## Price is not artist pay

For every proposed channel, record:

1. the public or quoted price;
2. mandatory buyer fees;
3. seller commission and withdrawal costs;
4. currency conversion and tax assumptions;
5. included revisions and delivery files;
6. ownership of the master and composition;
7. credit, exclusivity and portfolio-use terms;
8. cancellation, rejection and dispute procedures;
9. whether reviews and client relationships are portable.

This prevents a client from mistaking a low checkout price for a complete release-ready commission, and prevents an artist from mistaking platform gross for actual earnings.

## Recommendation for Charlie

1. **Keep Fiverr** while its reviews continue to produce suitable first-time work; narrow the packages and quote EP work separately.
2. **Keep and update AirGigs** as the verified music-specific alternative. Reconcile its $200 offer with the Fiverr packages so buyers can understand the difference in scope.
3. **Use Bandcamp as proof of artistry**, with accurate credits and a path to the canonical professional site.
4. **Evaluate SoundBetter or Vocalizr only against a stated goal**—for example, higher-budget production clients or vocalist/producer collaboration. Do not create more profiles merely to duplicate the same offer and fragment reviews further.
5. **Build the artist-owned site as the hub.** It should link to the marketplace appropriate for protected entry-level orders and offer a direct inquiry workflow for custom EP work. Existing marketplace clients must be handled according to each platform's non-circumvention rules.

## Recommendation for this EP

The $500 pilot and $2,500–$3,500 five-song proposal should not be reduced to five commodity orders. The project includes creative continuity, milestone approval, two revision rounds, complete files, clearance disclosures, split sheets and defined master ownership.

The parties may choose a marketplace for the pilot if its protection justifies the fees. Before ordering, the custom offer must reproduce the agreed scope and rights. The signed EP agreement and song-by-song split sheets remain the authoritative record for the full project.

## What ChatGPT contributes

ChatGPT can compare published fees, surface missing terms, model net and total costs, create intake questions and maintain a decision record. It cannot verify a contributor's identity from a similar name, decide artistic value, guarantee a platform outcome or replace legal review when rights and money justify it.

## Status boundary

Charlie has not accepted the EP proposal or endorsed this analysis. Verified public profiles are evidence of public presence only. Proposed platforms are labeled as such, and private communications or unpublished work remain outside the public repository.
